Succinic acid is a component naturally occurring in every living organism, because it takes part in the Krebs Cycle (or citric acid cycle), the process of which takes place in the mitochondria.
The Krebs cycle is a complex transformation process that is part of cellular respiration, i.e. obtaining energy from oxygen and additional nutrients.
