How do PDO threads work?
Polydioxanone (PDO) is a synthetic fiber that dissolves completely in the tissue over time. It has found application in the production of skin and subcutaneous sutures. The treatment involves inserting PDO threads under the skin (in selected areas) using a very thin needle. After insertion, the needle is removed and a dressing is applied to the skin. The applied treatment creates a scaffold around which the body begins the process of neocollagenesis (production of new collagen fibres), stimulation of fibroblasts for increased synthesis of elastin and the synthesis of endogenous hyaluronic acid.
